Literacy narratives are complex and are composed of many different players. The main players within a narrative are sponsors, and the student. Sponsors and the culture surrounding the student have strong influences on how a student may perceive literature. If a sponsor is positive than it will most likely result in the student adopting a positive identity within their narrative. However, when a negative sponsor is present it may result in the student adopting a victim identity and having a negative perspective of literature. Both Alexander and Brandt feel that culture influences what identity and perspective a student may adopt. I feel that they are both correct in their interpretation of sponsors, cultural influences, and identities. This paper has displayed many examples of strong evidence which supports these claims.
