Integrate Ideas

An important aspect of writing which I have improved upon through this course is integrating ideas. Integrating ideas involves, discussing the relationship between different texts, as well as, within your own claims. In the beginning of the course integrating the ideas of different texts was something which was difficult for me. However, through exercises such as the Barclay’s formula practices I now understand how to correctly structure a paragraph so that my claim is clearly supported by a quote from the texts which has a thorough explanation. Additionally, having discussions in class where we went over the assignments such as the Barclay’s paragraphs helped give me a stronger understanding of how to integrate ideas. In addition, homework assignments such as the reading responses for the texts which we read helped me begin to relate the ideas of the different texts together and find a stance on the topics. Homework assignments such as active reading allowed me to be more engaged in the texts and look for similarities between the multiple passages. The active reading assignments also pushed me to look deeper in to why the author chose to use the specific words and phrases within the text. These assignments have all benefited me greatly and allowed me to improve both my reading, as well as, writing acquisition.
