1. When Gee stated that you could teach a person linguistics but not how to be a linguist he is conveying that learning all of the terms, and grammar is very different from understanding how to use the language in any particular social situation.
  2. Primary Discourse is developed through an individual’s family, peers, clan, or group. While Secondary Discourse is developed through interaction with the public, or anyone outside of their immediate kin. Dominant Discourse and Non Dominant Discourse are both Secondary Discourses, however, Dominant Discourses can potentially bring about  individual gains, while Non Dominant Discourses benefit an individual’s network of close friends or family. These all play an important role during specific phases of an individual’s life.
  3. Discourses are not limited to speech they include how we communicate through body language. Nonverbal body language plays a crucial role in business Discourses. By portraying confidence in ones body language one may have a more appealing presence, during a evaluative situation. Evidence of this can be observed when Cuddy says “It’s about the presence that they’re bringing to the speech”.
